The McBride Company Completes Intricate Design of Grass Monkey Cannabis Dispensary and Art Gallery

The Portland-based dispensary features bespoke artwork and interior design inspired by cannabis culture

Manchester Center, VT, November 19, 2019 – The McBride Company, a creative concept and design firm, has completed conceptual, graphic and interior design work for Grass Monkey Cannabis Company, one of Maine’s premium cannabis cultivators. Grass Monkey engaged The McBride Company to design its new Portland, Maine location – which opened its doors on August 28, 2019 – for their unique and provocative approach to dispensary design.

“With legalized cannabis use becoming more mainstream, there’s a growing opportunity for dispensaries to embrace the counter culture from which it began, and engage customers with playful art and design,” said Ryan McBride, Creative Director, The McBride Company. “At Grass Monkey, we brought to life a dispensary experience that invites customers to share in the fun side of the cannabis community that has been lost in many of the original dispensary environments.”

A departure from the unsuspecting and sterile designs of many dispensaries today, The McBride Company takes the design of Grass Monkey to new heights. In response to the growing consumer demand for unique retail experiences, the location co-identifies as an art gallery. As such, the dispensary includes bespoke artwork and graffiti created on-site by Valentino Mikalef, the co-founder of the street art agency, Klughaus; an attention-grabbing six-foot banana sculpture; and monkey-inspired finishes and lighting. The space also draws inspiration from its industry, incorporating biophilic design elements and clever cues to pot culture.
